  • It Has Begun!

Remember yesterday how I posted that the weather was forecasted to bring some dearly-missed snow to the state of Tennessee? (Click here to read about it). Well, guess what? IT HAS BEGUN. As of 7:00 this evening. So far, grassy surfaces have about an inch or so, and the snow has started laying on the roads. Totally cool. Well, unless you live up north.  Then you probably think it's really silly to get all e...
  • Lovin' the Outdoors

I've really been taking advantage of the lovely weather we've been having recently by taking Nathan outside and letting him explore. And, as you all know, he absolutely loves being outside. And he really loves playing with twigs, leaves, and pretty much whatever he can get his little hands on. He wants to examine everything. And when he picks up something he hasn't picked up yet, he'll often...
  • That Txt Can W8

Texting while driving. Most of us have done it at least once. Many of us do it all the time. I admit, I am just as guilty as the next person. Yes, I have texted and driven before. Even though I very rarely texted while driving, the fact remains that I have done it. I thought that I had it all under control. But I watched a show on Oprah yesterday with information that totally changed my perspective.  The stories o...
  • Grumpified Grumpy Grump

I attempted in vain to lay Nathan down for his nap... he's not having it, however. He has been rubbing his bleary, sleepy little eyes since he woke up this morning, protesting everything that I did with squirming and grunts of dissatisfaction. However, he started out in a great mood this morning with a huge grin and scissor legs. We spent some time "talking" to each other for which I was rewarded with ton of h...
  • Miniature Scholar

I've been reading to Nathan since he was itty bitty. I remember vividly during his times of colic, reading Paddington Cleans Up over and over again was one of the few ways I could calm him down. So yeah, he's always loved reading, and he has his favorite books that he plays with reads all by himself. Even though his "reading" usually means holding the books upside down and gnawing on them, he still reminds me of ...

This is an amazing video … a cover of Adele’s Rolling in the Deep performed by a military band! Totally amazing performance!

Testing limits

Sometimes Nathan is hard to deal with. There are times when I KNOW for a FACT he understands what I’m saying, yet he pretends like he doesn’t. Why does he do that? To test his limits and see how much he can get away with? I’ve got my hands full with this one, I tell ya!

Sneaky little monkey

Nathan has a bad habit of reaching his greedy little hands up onto the kitchen counter, groping for whatever his little fingers can touch. Paul had been cutting limes (fortunately, we keep knives out-of-reach) and Nathan grabbed one of the lime slices and put it in his mouth.

“Mmmmm sour,” he said as he sucked on it. “Good sour.” Then he took the lime out of his mouth and put it back on the plate, apparently thinking what his parents don’t know won’t hurt!

Time Out!

Aug 20th

“Nathan, does you dump truck belong on the kitchen counter?” I asked Nathan as he rolled his dump truck all along my freshly cleaned, pristine counter. I am now wary of him rolling his toys along surfaces where I put food after the pooping incident we had just the other day.

“No?” he said as he continued to roll his dump truck around.

“Take your dump truck off the counter, please,” I instructed him.

“No please?” he replied.

“Do you know what happens when you don’t mind Mommy?” I asked.

“Biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig Twouble!” he said.

“That’s right. Big trouble.”

“Corner? Time out?”

“Yeah, you’ll get time out,” I replied.

And, much to my astonishment, Nathan marched himself over to the Time Out Corner and PUT HIMSELF IN TIME OUT!

“Corner!” he said proudly.

“Yes, yes you are in the corner, aren’t you?” I responded. “You put yourself in time-out because you didn’t mind. Thank you, Nathan.”

And you know, he kept himself in the corner for 30 seconds. Which, to a two-year-old, is Biiiiiiiiiig Twouble indeed.
