Have I got a strange story to tell you guys. A couple days ago, I finally went to the Driver’s License Center to get my license renewed since it expired on my 30th birthday. I know, I know. I’m a little late on that, but Nathan isn’t exactly at the age where I can take him places like that and expect him to sit still for anything longer than, oh, THIRTY SECONDS.
So anyway, as I was sitting there I noticed the people (four of them) beside me were acting a bit odd. They would get up, stumble around with heavy legs, and then plop back down. Their speech was slow and their eyes were half closed, as if they were on high on drugs. In fact, the more I observed them, the more I became convinced they were on something. They were rather loud and obnoxious, smelled bad, and were dressed shabbily in clothes that looked (and smelled) like they hadn’t been washed in days. It was everything about them- they way they walked, the way they talked, their entire demeanor, their smell… something was definitely not right about these folks.
After I had my picture taken, as I was waiting for my new license to be printed, I noticed two out of the group get up and stumble their way outside. Once my license was ready two or three minutes later, I left. After I got in my car, I noticed they were parked right in front of me. Both of them were in the car. FAST ASLEEP. It had only been three minutes or so since they had stumbled outside. As I was sitting there getting my seat-belt on and such, the woman asleep in the driver’s seat fell forward and hit her head on the steering wheel. AND REMAINED ASLEEP. She didn’t move or sit back up or anything. And the guy in the passenger seat? He didn’t even budge!
Talk about things that make you go HUH? I was shocked. I try not to judge people and instead I try to give them the benefit of the doubt, but sometimes, you just can’t help it. After seeing the woman hit her head on the steering wheel, coupled with their behavior in the building, I am totally certain they were on drugs. As to what, I don’t know. Meth, maybe? Heroin? Meth, sadly, is really popular in Tennessee. So much so that law enforcement is having a difficult time keeping up with it. I don’t know… all I know is that these people were nuts. What a sad, sad situation.
