Let It Snow!

It doesn’t snow much here in East Tennessee. In fact, it’s been years (YEARS!) since there has been any accumulation that’s been worth anything.

For someone like me, that sucks.

That means no snowball fights. No snowmen with carrot-noses. No sledding down hills. And, the biggest atrocity of all, NO SNOW ANGELS.

I like making snow angels.

A couple years ago, I went up to Wisconsin for Christmas to visit some family. And, believe it or not, a BLIZZARD came on the day of my arrival! I’ll never forget it. I was like a kid in the candy store as I stared out the jet’s window as we came to a stop on the icy runway.

My uncle came and picked me up from the airport, and on the way to the house, he had to stop and DEFROST THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS!! Because they were getting stuck from freezing to the windshield!

Ok, I know some of you think I’m nuts getting all excited over a blizzard. Especially those of you who live up north, and you have to deal with snow and ice and defrosting your windshield-wipers on a near-daily basis in the winter. But here in the south, we practically start drooling with anticipation at the slightest, most minuscule snow flurry.

So there I was in the middle of a blizzard in Wisconsin. Me, who hasn’t been able to play in the snow since I was single-digit-aged. So what did I do as soon as we arrived at the house?

You guessed it.

I made a snow angel. And yes, I even took a picture of my art with my cell phone.

And I didn’t make just one. No, I made MULTIPLE snow angles. My relatives had snow angels all over their front yard. And the snow banks in between the sidewalk and the road? I even used a stick to scribble our names on it. Because I hadn’t been able to do that since I was SINGLE-DIGIT-AGED.

So today, it snowed here in Tennessee. Not much. Not much at all. But Paul and I pretty much stayed glued to the windows, hoping against hope the “Winter Advisory” the not-so-all-knowing weather-service issued would leave us with enough powdery goodness to at least make footprints in.

As of 3:00 this afternoon, our ecstasy surged with each individual snow-flake that floated onto our yard. There was a very light dusting. Not enough to make a snow angel with, though. But considering the rarity of any accumulation at all around here, we weren’t complaining.

And as of 9:00 this evening, there was even more accumulation. Like, a couple of extra millimeters. But oh man, was it a beautiful sight.

And to this I say, Let it snow!

  1. Aw, beautiful pictures, Jen.

We were back in the Midwest for the holidays and Tankbaby got his first taste of snow. He was…underwhelmed.

I’m thinking you could make a very, very shallow snow angel in that bottom picture…. 🙂

    • LOL, Nathan felt the same way about the snow… quite underwhelemed indeed! I can’t wait til he’s bigger and hopefully we can take him sledding and such.

  2. You make good snow angels! People don’t realize how hard it is: you need to be able to get up without destroying the angels. And since I have no flexibility to speak of, I crawl up and then, for sure, I either sit my behind back down and ruin the angel, and my hands and feet get into the outlines and mess it up. You are a snow angel champion!

    • I love making snow angels! You’re right… it’s difficult to get up without destroying it. LOL the mental image you provided was hilarious!
