Children Denied Insurance for Being “Too Fat” or “Too Skinny”

Recently, an insurance company called Rocky Mountain Health in Colorado denied a four-month-old baby insurance because he was obese, which the insurance company claimed was a preexisting condition.  You can read more about it below.

Fat Baby Initially Denied Health Insurance

And just when I thought that was icing on the cake, I read THIS article: Toddler Denied Health Insurance for Being Too Small.

What’s up with health insurance denying coverage to children due to their weight? For God’s sake, they are CHILDREN! How can a CHILD being “too fat” or “too small” possibly be a pre-existing condition? Me personally, I think it’s ludicrous and such insurance companies should be penalized and fined. ALL children should be allowed to have health insurance, regardless of weight!

  1. Do NOT even get me started on health insurance. It enrages me, completely. Viagra covered, birth control not? People going to the E.R. for coughs and colds? Nothing about our health insurance system makes sense.Ugh…..it really gets me wound up.

  2. This is ridiculous! The health insurance industry needs a complete overhaul. As Nancy said, nothing about it makes sense. And in a sad way, no – the stories you’ve alerted us to don’t surprise me. Now THAT’S sad!

  4. I know, I could go off on a complete tangent about the current state of our health insurance system… it’s very sad indeed! Nancy’s right, it doesn’t make any sense. I am appalled and disgusted with how they’re doing things.
