life with a new baby
Oh the things Nathan does
In which my child discovered his nostril
Sep 13th
Yesterday Nathan his after-breakfast snack of Cheerio’s, I notices his right eye started to water. Then he started rubbing at his nose, paying particular attention to his right nostril. As he was rubbing it, he started sneezing. Again. And again. And again. Until finally, a huge glob of something gelatinous and sticky shot out of his nose.
Horrified, I at first wondered if it was some of his nasal tissue. I plucked the glob off his cheek and upon closer inspection, I discovered that no, my child was not losing his inner body tissue. He had sneezed out a Cheerio. A SOGGY Cheerio that had apparently been in his nostril for more than a few seconds.
Gross. Why do kids like to put stuff in their noses??
Sneaky little monkey
Aug 23rd
Nathan has a bad habit of reaching his greedy little hands up onto the kitchen counter, groping for whatever his little fingers can touch. Paul had been cutting limes (fortunately, we keep knives out-of-reach) and Nathan grabbed one of the lime slices and put it in his mouth.
“Mmmmm sour,” he said as he sucked on it. “Good sour.” Then he took the lime out of his mouth and put it back on the plate, apparently thinking what his parents don’t know won’t hurt!
Time Out!
Aug 20th
“Nathan, does you dump truck belong on the kitchen counter?” I asked Nathan as he rolled his dump truck all along my freshly cleaned, pristine counter. I am now wary of him rolling his toys along surfaces where I put food after the pooping incident we had just the other day.
“No?” he said as he continued to roll his dump truck around.
“Take your dump truck off the counter, please,” I instructed him.
“No please?” he replied.
“Do you know what happens when you don’t mind Mommy?” I asked.
“Biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig Twouble!” he said.
“That’s right. Big trouble.”
“Corner? Time out?”
“Yeah, you’ll get time out,” I replied.
And, much to my astonishment, Nathan marched himself over to the Time Out Corner and PUT HIMSELF IN TIME OUT!
“Corner!” he said proudly.
“Yes, yes you are in the corner, aren’t you?” I responded. “You put yourself in time-out because you didn’t mind. Thank you, Nathan.”
And you know, he kept himself in the corner for 30 seconds. Which, to a two-year-old, is Biiiiiiiiiig Twouble indeed.
When the phone rings…
Aug 5th
You know how when you have kids, there will eventually come a time when they will pick up your ringing phone and answer it, all without you knowing?
Well, that time has come, my friends.
My husband called me on my cell phone, which was in the kitchen. I didn’t hear it ring, but Nathan sure did. AND HE ANSWERED IT. Paul said he could hear Nathan say hello, then he babbled on about talking on the phone then some more babbling about something Paul couldn’t quite make out before Nathan said “BYE BYE!” and hung up. Paul was so amused by the whole thing, as was I when he told me the story.
The funniest part is that I think Nathan was completely unaware that it was his daddy on the phone. Paul said it seemed like Nathan wasn’t listening, so I am guessing Nathan just held the phone up to his face and looked at it while he talked… I usually hold the phone that way when he talks to someone because I put it on speakerphone for him.
I can’t believe my kid is old enough to answer my phone.
Good thing it wasn’t a business call, huh?
