Further proof that Andrew is retarded (not that we don’t already know he’s not the brightest star in the sky, right? I mean, this cat can’t even sit still without his head bobbing around): Now that Turbo has been shaved, Andrew doesn’t recognize him. SERIOUSLY! Andrew hisses and spits every time he sees him. And I’m all like, dude! Can you not smell? Because I know Turbo’s new haircut might seem a little disconcerting if you’re a cat but I KNOW he still has the same scent. But poor Andrew just doesn’t seem to have enough brainpower to compute that little fact! It’s funny to see Turbo walk past Andrew (or vice versa) because Andrew fluffs up his entire body, arches his back, stumbles backwards, and goes into HISSING HYSTERICS.

So Turbo, out beautiful Maine Coon kitty, decided to make the dark recesses under the couch his new lair. Unfortunately for him, this caused his fur to become matted. So Paul and I had no other option than to shave the big guy, not only because the mats could not simply be brushed out, but also because Turbo is not going to quit going under the couch. Being shaved will prevent mats from forming.

Unfortunately, Turbo did not want to cooperate for long, so we were unable to finish styling his legs. He did well, though. It took about two hours, and by the time we were done, the shaved fur piled on the floor looking like another whole animal.

But I’m not sure he will ever forgive us for this.

In fact, I’m pretty sure he will remember this forever.

We’re sorry, Big Turb. I guess you don’t exactly feel like you’re Turbo the Terminator anymore, do you?

Turbo, our Maine Coon kitty, has really developed a liking for Nathan, and will literally seek Nathan out. When Nathan’s in the living room, Turbo will sit near him, nonchalant as Nathan yanks his fur and is even tolerant of a tail pulling or two. He’ll sit on Nathan’s toys so that Nathan has to have contact with him. And when Nathan’s playing in his room, many times I will look over and see Turbo laying quietly at the baby gate that guards Nathan’s door, his eyes glimmering as he watches intently.

Sometimes Nathan will toddle over and squat down to Turbo’s level and engage in Baby Babble, complete with flying spit bubbles and intermittent excited jumping . Turbo will listen patiently while sniffing one of Nathan’s slobbery fingers that invariably finds its way through the openings of the baby gate.

I think Nathan may have a friend for life.

When Nathan was playing in the living room today, Paul and I noticed he kept periodically chewing on something, but it was so subtle that we thought since he had just finished luch, he was simply enjoying a piece of bagel. But then we noticed that after quite a while, he was still chewing on it. I did the Mom Swoop… where I pinched Nathan’s cheeks together to get his mouth to open and stuck my index finger inside his mouth with a swooping motion.

You won’t believe what I pulled out.

IT WAS A WAD OF CAT FUR.

Turbo’s fur, to be exact.

It was all mushy and soggy and had been chewed and mashed into this clump of sopping wet yuckiness and was was the yuckiest thing in all of the land.

Seriously, the kid was chewing it like it was gum. GUM. Tucked into the side of his cheek to be released for a good chomp every few minutes. I don’t even know where he found the wad of cat fur… I vacuum thoroughly every single morning.

Oh how I dread to see what else he manages to chew on before he reaches the age of ten.

Andrew likes to play with Nathan’s toys. So much so that I’ve had to start reprimanding him for it. Poor, sweet Andrew. None of the cats get all the attention that they used to before Nathan came along… but Andrew was my baby and I was constantly showering him with attention. Now, he has to share me with this tiny, chunky little human who screams really loudly and doesn’t understand the concept of “gentle” just yet.

Nathan’s “gentle” consists of smacking Andrew in the head with his slobbery hands. Or pulling Andrews lips open and peering at his teeth. All the other cats manage to keep their distance from this mischievous little human, but not Andrew. I think he likes Nathan, rough petting and all.

Andrew gets a little jealous at times. He’s never, ever mean about it, though, and he would never bite or scratch anyone, but you can tell that his feline feelings are hurt. When I’m playing with Nathan, Andrew will often stand to the side with his head cocked, sulking, with a look of longing on his face. Sometimes he will meow ever so pitifully, until I call him over to pet him. And when Nathan’s not playing with his toys, Andrew will sometimes sit on them.

Hopefully, Andrew and Nathan will bond as Nathan grows older and has better motor control. Andrew’s a great cat, and Nathan would never have cold feet when he sleeps, that’s for sure.

Our cats always seem to have it out for each other… in a very passive-aggressive way. Although the physical “cat fights” themselves are rare, (sometimes Turbo will swat at Kayli. Other times Andrew will smack his tail into Turbo’s face) the physical altercations are no match for the MIND WARS they tirelessly play with each other.

Take the above picture, for instance. Meeper, the cat on the right, was sleeping peacefully in the cat bed, minding his own business when along comes Kayli (the cat on the left who is attempting to look smug). But instead of finding an unoccupied nook to nestle in, she decided she would usurp Meeper’s bed.

So she just sauntered over to him and SAT ON HIM, using her body fat to push him into a sitting position.

And Meeper LET HER. He just sat up on his back legs, gave her a rather intense Evil Eye, and meowed a few times… but never tried to reclaim his bed.

Of course, that’s not the only time one of our cats has used his or her body weight to bully Meeper. Turbo is the reining champion when it comes to sitting on Meeper to get his way.

Sometimes my cats are like having a bunch of toddlers around!
