Heartburn heartburn, go away!

0

Heartburn, oh how I hate thee!

I seriously laid in bed the other night until 5am because the heartburn was so awful. I think it was more like some sort of crazy reflux; the burn would rise up my throat and into the back of my mouth & I’d have to swallow it back down! It was horrible!! I can’t take heartburn medicine like Tums because it makes me nauseous to the point of puking. I usually eat a green apple, which helps neutralize the stomach acid- but I still have to be in a sitting position for a while after I eat it or else it comes up my throat anyway (albeit without the burn.) So I laid in bed, tossing and turning, hoping it would go away. No such luck!! I should’ve gotten up & eaten that apple anyway!

On the bright side, the severity of that heartburn/reflux during this pregnancy doesn’t happen too often- mostly if I eat dinner later than normal. And besides that- this baby will be totally worth it. I can’t wait to meet him!

Oh the burn!

Oh the heartburn!! I remember having this same problem when I was pregnant with Nathan, and it is not fun! It feels like I have a small bonfire growing in my chest. Like I’m going to be talking to someone and at the most unexpected moment, flames are going to shoot out of my mouth & burn their eyebrows off. It’s mostly exacerbated by foods like pizza & spaghetti, but even seemingly innocuous foods like turkey sandwiches will bring it on. And I can’t bend over. Not only because of my bulging belly, but even trying to bend over gives me major heartburn.

Oh yeah, that reminds me. I totally split my pants down the middle while at the gym on Tuesday. And I don’t even know how long they were like that. AND I had to walk from the second floor to the locker room on the first floor with a hole in the seam! Fortunately, it could only be seen if I bent over, which I don’t do, so I doubt anyone noticed. But I digress. Back to my heartburn discussion…

What seriously sucks is that I can’t take Tums or other antacids this pregnancy because they make me nauseous. As in first-trimester-like nausea. About an hour or so after I take them, I end up throwing up. Projectile. Very uncool. I don’t have this problem when I’m not pregnant, and I didn’t have this issue when I was pregnant with Nathan. But apparently, this baby does NOT like antacids.

So that pretty much leaves me with either avoiding all foods entirely (YEAH RIGHT!) or coming up with another option. I tried milk and that was a big fail. Made it worse! So… I’ve found a pretty decent substitute for Tums… FRUIT!! No kidding! Well, not just any fruit. I’ve noticed that some fruit even gives me heartburn. But grapes, strawberries, and especially green apples really help! And it’s really nice that it’s, well, fruit. Natural. Delicious. Succulant. And good for me!

By the way, have you ever heard that silly old wives tale that having heartburn while pregnant means your baby will have a headfull of hair? LIES!! It was pretty bad with Nathan and the kid was born bald & stayed that way until he was a toddler. He didn’t get his first haircut until after his third birthday. Old wives tales really irritate the dickens out of me. But then again, many things do right now. Thw third trimester is no joke!

And now I’m off to find some delicious fruit to gorge on…
