A trip to Michigan
Jul 22nd
Well, it’s been a few days since I’ve posted last. So much has been happening! We went on a trip to Michigan to see my grandparents (Dad’s parents). It was an amazing trip… I was able to reconnect with aunts, uncles, and cousins that I had not seen since 1987. That’s 24 years, y’all. Twenty-four years is TOO LONG. See, we live all over the United States… Tennessee, Michigan, Wisconsin, Washington State, Arizona, Colorado… so it’s incredibly hard to schedule get-togethers. Then, before ya know it, TWENTY FOUR years has passed since the last time you’ve seen your family.
The trip went by way too fast. We went up last week (I had pre-written a few posts and scheduled them to go up while I was away so that it wouldn’t be too awfully long with no a posts) and we got back earlier this week. I have been running around like a chicken with my head cut off (gross imagery, right?) trying to clean, unpack, and get Nathan settled back into his routine.
We’re almost back to normal now.
So that means that soon, I will write more about my lovely trip and post some PICTURES! Lots of fun, good memories, and DELICIOUS food. And, most importantly, I GOT TO SEE MY GRANDMA!! I haven’t seen her in about four years or so. They live in Michigan and used to travel down to Florida in the winter, so twice a year, they would make a detour by my parents’ house to see us. Then, my grandmother was diagnosed with a form of Parkinson’s and became unable to travel, so that’s why I haven’t seen her in so long.
It was GOOD to hug her again.
I miss my family so much already.
Splish-splashing around

Nathan loves to go swimming. Even if it’s in a tiny little splash pool. Funny thing is that he doesn’t even completely sit down in it… he mostly stands up and splashes around. It’s so cute to watch!
Funny story for you. Once, when it was Really Hot Outside, Nathan was playing in his little splash pool. The water he was splashing in looked positively tantalizing. I had on my bathing suit anyway (due to the heat) so I decided why not? I got into Nathan’s little splash pool with him.
Notice how I keep emphasizing the word “little.” This pool is only about two feet in diameter. So I got into the pool and sat down cross-legged. Unfortunately, once I did, I took up the majority of the room (in my defense, NO, my butt is not two feet wide… but sitting down with your legs crossed takes up some serious room!). Nathan, in all of his sweetness, looked down at me in his pool, saw there was very little room left for him to play in, and much to my chagrin then said “Uh oh!”
I won’t be doing that again any time soon.
Working my way back to pre-baby size
Jul 13th
I can’t remember if I’ve posted this picture before… As you know, I don’t post that many pictures of myself, but I’m thinking maybe I will post more once I get down to my weight-loss goal. You know, once I’m not so embarrassed to be seen anymore!
By the way, the weight loss is going GREAT. I have been working out like a beast (think 4x a week… working out so hard that my face turns beet red and sweat flies off of me in all directions!) for the past four months… I’ve lost 24 pounds and I’ve gone down three dress-sizes and counting! It’s hard work but it’s totally paying off. I push myself as hard as I can. I don’t shy away from the burn. Instead, I welcome it. I always say that if you don’t feel the burn, you’re not working hard enough! I work out so hard that it’s impossible for me to carry on a conversation. I’ve also modified what I eat as well… I’ve really cut back on processed foods and I’ve added more vegetables, fruits, lean meats, whole grains, etc. Basically, I’m just working out really hard and eating healthier. My motivation is not only for my health, but I want to be around for a while for my little boy.
Plus, looking better isn’t all that bad either!
