Changing it up
Jul 6th
I hope you all had a wonderful July 4th!
We spent the day taking it easy and relaxing after a nice lunch with Paul’s grandparents. And even Nathan joined in on the chilling out by ONLY POOPING ONCE. He’s been pooping 3-4 times a day lately, and let me tell you, THAT GETS OLD. Who likes changing multiple poopy diapers a day? Certainly not many of us, me included.
We didn’t get to see the fireworks because we found out, once it was too late, that the fireworks in our town were going to be held on Saturday instead of Sunday. Saturday, however, we were watching the UFC fight, which was great, by the way. It was probably too late for Nathan anyways since they don’t start until around 10:00 at night, and Nathan is in bed by 9.
There’s always next year, though!
But today, our festivities are officially over. Paul has gone back to work after five whole days of being off. I always feel a twinge of sadness when he has to return to work, especially after a long weekend. I am lucky to have an amazing husband that loves to spend time with me and vice versa! I married a family man… exactly who I’ve been wanting my whole life.
So, in other news, I’m thinking about switching up my postings a little bit. Instead of writing at the same time Monday through Friday, I’m going to start posting whenever I have something to post about… whether it’s multiple times in one day or just once every two days or whatever. I’m still trying to find the right fit for me and what works best with my schedule with Nathan. We’ll see how this goes.
Oops!
Jul 3rd
So I totally forgot to post something yesterday, and I feel really bad. Like I just ate a whole chocolate cake all by myself. Fortunately, over indulgence in chocolate cake consumption is not why I forgot to post. It was because Paul and I had a date together last night, and with all the hubbub of getting Nathan’s things packed for an overnight stay with Paul’s parents, it completely slipped my mind.
Which, as usual, our date night rocked. We had a nice dinner at an Italian restaurant and later enjoyed our usual past-time of playing pool together. And conversations about our little guy didn’t dominate the evening, although we couldn’t help ourselves- we DID talk about him some. But how could we not when we have a kid with cheeks THAT chubby?
But alas, the world is still turning. So I guess it’s not that big of a deal that I forgot. But still. The guilt is eating away at me. So to make up for it, here’s a cute video of Nathan for you to enjoy.
Laughin’ out loud
Jun 24th
All I have to do to get Nathan to laugh is to make funny faces. It can be anything; smiling with my mouth wide open, crossing my eyes, wrinkling my nose, furrowing my eyebrows, puffing out my cheeks… he likes them all.
In this video, I’m behind the camera making an assortment of funny faces for Nathan… and getting a kick out of his reactions.
Who knew new shoes could be so entertaining?
Jun 17th
Putting a brand new pair of shoes on Nathan is almost as funny as putting tape on the bottoms of my cats’ feet. Which, by the way, is Really Freakin’ Funny. It doesn’t take them long, however, to sit down and and casually yank the tape off their paws and then throw me a look like Seriously, Human. Is that the best you can do?
So this video was the first time we put this particular pair of shoes on Nathan. He had another pair, but he totally outgrew them in what seemed like five minutes. We got them for him when he was year old and they were TOO BIG. I kid you not, guys, he OUTGREW THEM IN THREE MONTHS!
Three!
I really didn’t know feet could grow so fast.
So his feet grew so fast that he completely skipped a half-size and went from a size four to a size five, and this video was the first time he wore his new size 5’s. They’re a little big, but a 4.5 is still too small. I wonder how long it will take him to outgrow them. Four minutes? Two seconds? Because I swear my kid is on a mission.
A mission to grow.
In the meantime, I will be enjoying his many spectacles he performs throughout the day… because Lord knows there are MANY.
Exersaucer, I will miss you
Jun 14th
This is probably one of the last times I’ll have Nathan in his exersaucer, which is yet another bittersweet time for me. He’s been playing in it since he was about five months old, and it has been like a life savor so many times. Whenever Nathan was grumpy, the exersaucer would cheer him up. Whenever I needed a shower, I could just plop him into the exersaucer and he would be content. He loved spinning around in the seat, exploring all the toys, and studying all the colors and textures. But now? Now, my little boy is growing up and is almost too big for it anymore. He can still enjoy it for a bit longer, but he’s starting to get too tall for it.
I can’t believe I got attached to it myself. There are so many memories… I look at it, and I think of all the times Nathan played in it. I remember him being so little that even when the exersaucer was on the shortest setting, his toes barely touched the ground. At first, I could only have him in the exersaucer when I was sitting right beside him because he would just flop forward and backward. But it gave him great exercise, and he was soon strong enough to play without me hovering.
Ah, it’s always a bit sad when your child finally outgrows something that he used for so long!
