Yucky old cold
Oct 31st
I got sick.
It’s not fun.
In fact, I am pretty sure I would rather stab my big toe with a pitchfork a few times than be this sick. But you wanna know what is making my life more bearable at the moment? The love of my wonderful husband. You know you’ve married the right person when you get sick and your spouse comes home from the store with your favorite chocolate ice cream, cold meds, orange juice, Kleenex, chicken noodle soup, and comfort food… gets up with the kid in the morning, makes you breakfast in bed, vacuums, straightens up the house, and changes Nathan’s dirty diapers, even the poopy ones!
I am feeling better today than I was on Friday. Shortly after I posted that I was starting to feel ill, it escalated into a a sore throat with lots of sneezing, a leaky nose, congestion, cough, and sinus pressure complete with itchy and stopped-up ears. Nathan, though, is still not feeling well at all. This is definitely a full-blown cold, and the lil guy is quite miserable. And I must say, I TOTALLY UNDERSTAND why he whined so much last week because let me tell ya, this cold is just awful.
Then again, it’s been so long since the last time I’ve had a cold like this (years!) that I have forgotten how miserable it feels to be so sick. This cold is kicking our butts. The little guy is a trooper, though, because I know he’s feeling worse than I am. My immune system is amazing, plus it has nearly 30 years of experience. Nathan’s immune system, however, is only 21 months old.
Hopefully we will both be feeling better in the next couple of days.
And a HAPPY HALLOWEEN to all you out there!! Hope you all have a safe and wonderful evening and for any of you who are going trick-or-treating, I will be living vicariously through you. We decided not to do it this year because Nathan is at the stage where costumes and scary faces frighten him. (Plus, we wouldn’t have been able to take him anyway considering how sick we both are.) Next year though, hopefully!!
Sharing the sniffles
Oct 29th
Remember the other day when I mentioned that Nathan was sick? Well, he’s still sick, and now the lil guy has passed it on to me with his germ-sharing slobbery kisses. But how oh how can I deny those sweet little kisses? So instead I sit here, willing my body to fight this cold off. I have a pretty good immune system… it’s been years (YEARS!!!) since I’ve been sick. So I’m hoping the runny nose, sneezing, and sore throat don’t escalate.
In the meantime, will someone play a little violin for me? I’d also like some whine with my cheese, please.
A case of the sniffles
Oct 27th
Yesterday, as it was nearing Nathan’s nap time, Nathan and I sat down at the computer and I sang along with some songs on YouTube. After about 20 minutes, the little guy was completely knocked out. As in, my voice must have sounded so horrible that the only reprieve Nathan had was to fall asleep! He was so asleep, in fact, that he didn’t wake up as I changed his diaper and put him down for his nap. He slept solidly, like a little angel, and woke up refreshed and happy.
My singing must have really wore him out!
Today, however, that is not the case. He woke up this morning with a stuffy nose, and it has been running like a leaky faucet all day long. He’s been fussy and is constantly swiping at his runny nose with his hands, effectively smearing snot all over his face. When I put him down for a nap, and he only slept lightly because of his nose was so stopped up. He kept trying to suck on his fingers, but then he couldn’t breathe so he would wake up. I don’t know if it’s a cold or allergies. He doesn’t have a fever and seems to have no other symptoms other than a stuffy nose that constantly drips clear fluid. I don’t hink he’s contagious since neither Paul nor I are showing any symptoms.
Poor lil guy. I hate when he doesn’t feel well.
Wind, wind go away!
Oct 26th
There have been quite a few storms and wind here in East Tennessee the past couple days. Yesterday, I was sitting in the living room, when I heard a loud BANG! on the roof, immediately followed by clunking noises starting from the middle of the roof and rolling to the edge and then a loud PLOP! as the object hurtled to the ground. I yanked open the curtains, certain someone (a ninja perhaps?) had fallen out of one of our trees and rolled down our roof to their death.
But instead of a dead body, there was only a stupid ole branch.
But I am counting my blessings because even though I would hope that any psycho willing to climb a tree in order to spy on us or rob us falls and gets hurt, I would still feel absolutely horrible that it happened.
And it would be a huge mess to have to clean up.
