Leaps and Bounds

Remember how I’ve been talking about how Nathan’s been moving around all over the place via various forms of crawling? Well, he’s suddenly on the brink of being able to crawl forwards with his tummy off the floor! Today, he got on all fours and actually crawled, belly off the floor, two steps! (Can you even call it that… steps?)

He got up on all fours and rocked back and forth a few times. Then he spied Mr. Seahorse.

And guys, he CRAWLED FORWARDS! Not backwards. Not his typical army crawl. Not even the crawl/lurch. He moved his arms and legs forward in the crawling motion!

The past few days have been a whirlwind of advancements. Along with his first REAL crawling motion, he’s started pulling himself up on everything!

The coffee table. His high chair. Bookshelves. If he can reach it, he tries to pull himself up on it. He usually gets about halfway up and then plops back down again- but I have a feeling that it won’t be long at all.

He’s also becoming more adept at getting into stuff.

Like his dresser drawers.

We finally had to baby-proof Nathan’s dresser drawers in his room because he kept pulling the drawers open and digging around inside.

We are now entering the Toddler Years.

  2. I am with Nancy!!!

You may luck out: some kids are not into everything. But judging by the beginning of his mobility you just described, Nancy is right!!

Congratulations!! (Not on having to childproof everything which is a major pain but to Nathan entering the exciting new phase… In my experience, from now on, dads will become more and more involved because now when they are with the children, they get more “positive reinforcements”, the dads. They are sometimes like puppies…)

    • I think you guys are right… Nathan is one of those kids who will get into EVERYTHING. He’s sooooo curious and loves to explore. I’m so excited about this new phase! He’s not a little baby anymore, and it’s sooo hard to believe that almost a year ago, he was a newborn!

LOL! Yeah, sometimes dads ARE like puppies, aren’t they!

  3. Oh, I hear you on this. Tankbaby has suddenly realized that our house is full of fun (read: dangerous) things for him to grab, put in his mouth, and pull down onto his head.

I raise my cupboard latches in your direction! 🙂

    • It’s amazing the things they find to get into! And he notices every little thing that I don’t notice… like a glob of lint that got stuck in the edge between the wall and the floor. Those inquisitive little fingers are like magnets for Hidden Things!
