I was perusing Snopes.com, looking for something intersting. Snopes is a great website to go to when you receive those forwarded emails ranting about some orphan in Podunk, USA being attacked by a herd of rabid bunnies and is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries but that hospital will be forced to pull the plug due to lack of insurance but if you forward this email, Yahoo will donate $1 for every person you forward it to.
I hate those kinds of emails.
But there is Snopes to save the day. Or my sanity. Or both.
So anyway, I was browsing Snopes, checking the veracity of some forwarded emails I received, when I came across this truly awe-inspiring and humbling story about a woman who, during WWII, smuggled thousands of children and infants from Nazi death camps, risking her own life and later being caught and tortured for her actions.
What a truly amazing woman.
It makes you think… what would you do? Would you risk your own life to save the lives of 2,500 Jewish children, knowing if you were caught that you would be brutally tortured and even executed?
Not many people would.
She was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize in 2007, but it was not awarded to her. Instead, it was awarded jointly to Al Gore and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) for a slideshow they presented concerning global warming.

Oh yes, she definately deserves the Nobel Peace Prize. And then some.
